About

Hello!

I’m trying to be kinder to our planet. I already recycle plastic bottles and used office paper and turn off the lights when I’m not in the room… But I want to go a step further, and this blog is going to record and report just how I’m going to do that. (Plus I need to write my progress down for motivation!)

So… what’s with the “Trash Diary”? My Trash Diary is a sort of experiment. You know how people that are trying to diet keep a log of everything they consume? Well, since I’m trying to be mindful of how much waste I produce, I want to keep a log of everything that I throw away.

The lists aren’t and won’t be perfect. I can’t account for all the waste I produce. I can’t count the number of soap bubbles I send down the drain. And, unfortunately, I can’t even estimate all the indirect waste that I make… or maybe I should say, cause. What I mean by indirect waste is the waste made in the production process of all the stuff I use. According to Annie Leonard in The Story of Stuff (a cute, disturbing, and very educational 20-minute video), the average American creates 4.5 pounds of waste a day!

But I won’t just be writing garbage. :P Anything else I do that’s “green”, I’ll blog. The Trash Diary is just one project.

Feel free to comment and talk to me! I’d love to hear what you think.

And if you want to make your own Trash Diary, or have any other exciting green news to share, go right ahead and tell me about it!
